SAHAS at IPATHCON 2024 – Advancing Transgender Health

On 1st November 2024, a landmark MoU was signed between the Association for Transgender Health in India (ATHI) and Alliance India to work towards the welfare of transgender individuals collaboratively. The partnership aims to provide holistic health support, Gender Affirmation Care (GAC), training for healthcare providers, education, research, advocacy, and empowerment initiatives.

The event culminated in IPATHCON 2024, a three-day conference held in Kolkata, focused on spreading awareness and training on GAC. On the first day (30th November 2024), sessions covered critical topics like the clinical approach to gender-diverse individuals, feminising hormone therapy, mental health, and adolescent transgender care. Alliance India's "SAHAS" team actively participated in panel discussions, addressing queries and sharing insights to streamline GAC processes for the community.

This initiative marks a significant step towards inclusivity and improved healthcare for transgender individuals, laying the foundation for a stronger, more supportive network.

World AIDS Day 2024: Advocating for Rights-Based Healthcare

As part of this year’s World AIDS Day theme—"Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!"—Alliance India highlighted the importance of protecting everyone’s rights to achieve the 2030 goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat.

On social media, we published short videos featuring individuals from diverse communities and individuals who advocate for the significance of rights-based approaches to healthcare. Among the voices captured was Yumnah Hattas, Senior Advisor on Gender and SRHR at Frontline AIDS, who shared: "We can’t have an AIDS-free society by 2030 if organisations don’t believe in human rights and fail to recognise everyone as human beings."

Protecting the rights of each individual is crucial because it ensures dignity, access to healthcare, and empowerment, enabling all to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Together, we continue to amplify the message that safeguarding rights is essential for achieving equitable healthcare and ending AIDS as a public threat.
