Empowering Voices: Advocacy Training for Project SAHAS Leaders | | | | Alliance India remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering partner organisations through capacity-building initiatives. This dedication was exemplified during a two-day training held on 27th & 28th December 2024, for second-line leaders of Project SAHAS partners, representing six CBOs from across the country. The training focused on enhancing advocacy skills among emerging leaders.
Led by Ms Simran Arora, Training and Advocacy Officer, Project SAHAS, the sessions provided invaluable insights into effective advocacy techniques. Community leaders and Project Directors shared their experiences and best practices, offering young leaders a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.
A highlight of the event was an engaging session by Ms Abhina Aher, a renowned transgender community leader and activist, who shared her advocacy journey and strategies for working with government and non-government agencies.
The training was a resounding success, equipping participants with advocacy tools they were eager to apply within their organisations. | | | |
Uniting for Rights: World AIDS Day 2024 Community Consultation | | | |
Marking World AIDS Day 2024 under the theme "Taking the Rights Path," Alliance India hosted a two-day community consultation in New Delhi on 19th and 20th December 2024. The event brought together representatives from marginalised communities, government officials, and development partners to address HIV prevention and care from a human rights perspective.
Organisations such as UNAIDS, USAID, AIIMS, ICMR, ILO, State AIDS Control Societies, CTD, and NACO participated. Discussions highlighted legal and policy reforms to improve service accessibility and rights-based approaches.
Community leaders shared their experiences, fostering collaborative efforts to ensure marginalised voices remain central to India's HIV response.
Recommendations from the event will inform national policy frameworks, advancing progress towards the 95-95-95 targets and ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. | | | | |
Advancing Gender-Sensitive Policing and Harm Reduction in Imphal | | | On 22nd November 2024, Alliance India and Nirvana Foundation, supported by Gilead Sciences, co-hosted a critical consultation on gender-sensitive policing in Imphal. Amid ongoing ethnic armed conflict, the event convened law enforcement officials, healthcare experts, and community leaders to address the unique challenges faced by WWUD.
Participants emphasised the need to shift from punitive approaches to supportive, gender-sensitive strategies. This consultation marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between police, health services, and local communities to ensure the well-being and rights of WWUD. | | | | |
Advancing Health and Rights for Women Who Use Drugs in Manipur | | | | On 13th and 14th December 2024, , Alliance India, in partnership with Nirvana Foundation and supported by Gilead Sciences, organised a capacity-building workshop in Imphal. The workshop addressed barriers to healthcare access for WWUD, focusing on HIV prevention, harm reduction, mental health, and advocacy.
Key stakeholders, including representatives from NVHCP, Manipur Police, and the PWUD community, engaged in discussions grounded in lived experiences. Topics included stigma, healthcare inequities, and strategies for addressing policy barriers.

Strategic Planning for Transgender Rights Gender-Based Violence Prevention | | | Addressing gender-based violence (GBV) within the transgender community, Alliance India participated in the Strategic Planning Meeting of the Frontline AIDS Trans Coalition held in Cape Town, South Africa, on 10th to 12th December 2024. Representatives from organisations like Trans Latina, Trans Bureau Initiative Uganda, and Fem Alliance Uganda joined the meeting.
The coalition established its mission, vision, and key activities for the coming years, aiming to address barriers such as poor reporting, lack of awareness, and stigma. Amrita Sarkar from Alliance India represented the organisation, contributing to this significant initiative aimed at fostering global solidarity and support for transgender rights.
